Research Area:

Biosynthesis and application of polymers, Metabolic engineering, Synthetic biology, fermentation engineering, Biomaterials.

Our lab focuses on the microbial production and applications of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a family of biodegradable and
biocompatible materials with good thermal and mechanical properties. Over the past 20+ years, we have contributed to the
development of a PHA industrial value chain ranging from microbial fermentation, environmentally friendly materials, medical
materials, biofuels, specialty materials, fine chemicals, foods and medicines. Large scale production of PHA has been achieved.
Currently China stays in an advanced position in PHA academic research and industrialization.
